So I just finished my second podcast, and I have to say...I think this is my most boring one yet. No really, prepare yourself, I present my theory on which my final paper will be based. While the theory (to me at least) is interesting, I feel like the video drags towards the middle part.
However, the production and scripting went off without any real issue. I planned out the video earlier in the week and was able to shoot and edit the whole thing in an afternoon. I am worried that my video might not fit the exact requirements of what this second podcast was supposed to be; however, it fits into the progression of my four podcasts.

Justin -
Nice job on blog #2! It was VERY educational and provided good insight into the theory. The way that you framed everything was nice and your volume was good. I liked how you used the camera to emphasize different points but looking straight into it instead of to the side. It definately caught my attention when your focus changed.
Some suggestions that I would have for you would be to set your frame away from the desk since there is so much stuff on it. It was a little distracting and I kept wondering what was in some of your containers. Also, if you could have typed the references on a slide so that we could actually see the information, it would have been easier to retain. Obviously just hearing information like that is difficult to completely comprehend and remember, so if we could have seen it as well it would have been all the better.
Over all though, great job! I look forward to podcast #3!
Justin-
You have a very comfortable presence in your podcast about presence. You seem very ‘at home’ in front of the camera and with the topic you are discussing. I did get the feeling that I was sitting in your home office talking to you about presence and that we were in a conversation, almost. Nicely done.
I hate to be redundant, but the clutter on your desk is distracting. I guess the most distracting was the bright computer screen- what was on there?
But it does give it a feeling of home and the continuity between your first podcast and this one is there.
I really think you did a good job of formatting this as if someone was there learning from you and asking questions; you seemed to address the topic as a knowledgeable source, but also explained it in a way that anyone watching could come away with a better understanding. The research you suggested was a nice touch, too.
Good job!
The framing and audio are good. You might either turn the monitor off or drop down the brightness. Consider putting references on screen when you are talking about them. This would also cover you looking at your notes. Overall, the information is well presented, however some visuals would help get your ideas across. These might include some titles to break up the sections and key points. I was pleased that you are planning to include the article titles in the blog, however I don’t see them. You might also have included some screen shots/video that illustrate what you are talking about. This would be particularly helpful for people that may not be familiar with the shows you are talking about and possibly to illustrate the difference between HDTV and SDTV. I look forward to the next podcast!
Justin--
First, let me apologize for the late comment. Procrastination and short term memory loss got the better of me.
Good job. I liked that you changed your shirt color so you didn't blend into the wall this time. :) Not to be really annoying about this...but you kind of blended into the chair in your black shirt.
I felt like you conveyed a lot of information in your video. I liked that you had so many references and such a working knowledge of the topic. BTW...the Bracken of Bracken (2005) was my Master's advisor. She's pretty cool. Just thought I'd share.
Moving on...like the other comments, I think that slides, especially during your transitions, would have helped the flow of the podcast. Just putting in the transition made it feel disjointed. Likewise, I think slides with reference information (even just author and year) would also have helped the flow as well.
Finally, I think presence is an interesting topic. Along with resolution and HDTV, I think that parasocial interaction also plays a part in presence, and how personal the information being conveyed also has an impact. And, despite the small YouTube screen, I did feel a little bit like I was sitting in your office having a conversation with you. Which, I think, is one of the reasons people podcast.
Anyway...well done.
Wendy
Justin,
I really enjoyed and learned a lot from your second podcast. It was educational but not that bored that you mention. You explain the theories clearly and I like the way when you give the example. It helps me to understand the concept easier. From those examples you told seem interesting that how TV adapt our daily IT life and then get close to audience. I think your topic is exactly reflects the current electronic media industries’ perspective into academia.
When I heard some papers you mention, I thought that I should review the podcast again to write it down. BUT you knew the viewers. I like that you provide information on the viewer’s point of view.
For the camera angle, it seems to me a little bit lower. Also I wonder if you turn off your computer screen or make screen saver, viewers might more focus on you. During the podcast, I tried to not to watch left side because it was too bright.
Overall, you did good job. I have no comment or suggestion for your editing. It was clear and well-organized. I look forward your third podcast.
